Q. Who do I call if I want to know if my income qualifies for
Housing Assistance?
A. The Leon County Department of Housing
Services, where all housing applications will be taken and is
necessary to determine if you are eligible. You will need to contact
one of the Housing Services Specialist at (850) 606-1900.
Q. Who is eligible for County Housing Assistance?
A. Residents that live outside the City limits, own
and occupy
their home and have clear title to the land are eligible, however
income and other items have to be verified to determine
qualification for program services.
Q. Once I am approved for Housing Assistance, how long will it
take for my house to be rehabilitated?
A. If you are approved for housing
assistance, it could be anywhere from 6 to 12 months before your
house is completed.
Q. Do I get to select the contractor that will do the work
on my house?
A. No, there is a bid process which involves approved
contractors, and the lowest bidder will be awarded the contract to
rehabilitate your house.
Q. What is the difference between rehabilitation and
remodeling?
A. Rehabilitation deals only with housing code issues, that
will make the house safe and decent. Remodeling would be considered
cosmetic type repairs, like carpet replacement and new cabinets.
Remodeling is not a part of the Housing Program.
Q. If the County is rehabilitating my house, will I have to move
out?
A. In some cases you might have to move out of
your house. This will be determined by the amount and type of
services required to bring your home back up to code.
Q. If I have to move out of my house during the time my house is
being repaired, who pays for it?
A. The housing program will reimburse a
homeowners for relocation expenditures up to $500 with valid
receipts for storage and other expenses.
