Helping seniors remain in their own communities
and live independent, healthy and engaged lives is the focus of the
Leon County Senior Outreach, a program of the Tallahassee Senior
Citizens Foundation that is funded by the Leon County Commission. By
bringing a variety of resources to the rural areas of our community,
seniors are able to access services in the areas where they live.
Programs have been established in the communities of Chaires-Capitola,
Ft. Braden, Miccosukee and Woodville, with future expansion planned
for other areas of the County.
The following are some of the activities and
services the Leon County Senior Outreach program offers:

Senior Days feature an array of exciting and interesting speakers,
informative exhibits, an abundance of resources and a delicious,
southern-style lunch (thanks to Banjo’s Smokehouse). It is a great
way to access a variety of social services, health screenings and
information specifically selected to benefit seniors. The best part,
however, is the fun and fellowship! No reservations needed.
Suggested $6.00 donation (but we want everyone to come, so just give
what you can).
Senior Fitness Classes are designed for men and women, age 55 and
older, of ALL ability levels. No reservations needed. Suggested
$2.00 donation.
Bus Trips to WalMart give seniors a fun and easy way to get to the
store. In partnership with StarMetro, comfortable, new paratransit
busses take riders to the nearest Super WalMart that features a
grocery, hair salon, pharmacy and a wide range of household goods.
Reservations suggested, call 891-4033, or 891-4065. Cost is $2.00
round-trip.
Grandparents as Parents (GaP) is a program that provides services, information and support for grandparents and other non-parent caregivers raising children.
